This romantic bolthole enjoys a tucked-away location within the grounds of a country mansion, on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The surrounding landscape is awash with walking trails, including the long-distance Pennine Way (2 miles) and the towering heights of Kinder Scout (15 miles). There are also some fascinating local attractions nearby, including Lyme Park National Trust, where the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice was filmed.
The cottage is arranged across one level and has a bright, open-plan layout. Enter into the contemporary lounge/kitchen/diner, where you’ll find everything needed to whip up a tasty meal for two. After dinner at the dining table, sink into the comfortable sofa to read a book or watch a film on the TV/DVD. A step up leads to the inviting double bedroom, which enjoys tranquil views across the garden and has an en-suite shower room. Outside, share a bottle of wine at the bistro set in the enclosed garden, followed by an evening stroll around the extensive shared grounds.
Just 2 miles away is the vibrant market town of Glossop, which boasts a fantastic array of independent shops and eateries. The town is a great place for picking up local produce, with regular farmers’ markets throughout the month. Further afield, the spa town of Buxton (14.5 miles) makes a lovely day out. Hop on a vintage tram to explore the town’s historic buildings and landmarks, head to St Ann’s Well to sample the famous thermal waters, watch a show at the beautiful Opera House, and admire the stunning floral displays in the ornamental gardens.
