  • Charming stone terraced cottage at the foot of Kinder Scout in the Peak District
  • Relax in the elevated garden with views over the countryside
  • A walkers’ paradise with many paths up Kinder Scout, accessible from the doorstep
Property code: 57871

A cosy cottage in a village position with fantastic access to Kinder Scout. Hayfield is located at the north-western edge of the Peak District National Park, making it off the beaten track compared to some regions. The north of the Peak District is emptier, starkly beautiful, and attractive to those that shun the crowds. There are some great day trips to be had in the area, so make sure Blue John Cavern, Chatsworth House, Buxton Spring, Lyme Park and the Pennine Way are on your radar. The Peaks have a strong literary connection to Jane Austen, so there are numerous pilgrimages to add to your list of day trips too.

Step into the cottage through the front door into the handy porch area, leave your muddy boots and coats here and step into the lounge which is decorated with neutral tones and provides comfortable seating to relax after a day of exploring. Put your feet up and listen to the sounds of the crackling open fire, a real country retreat. There is a small folding dining table and chairs for dining. Leading on into the kitchen which has a small breakfast bar, electric oven and gas hob, fridge with ice compartment, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The first floor is accessed by a steep staircase from the kitchen, with a door at the bottom. Heading up the stairs you will find the super-king-size zip-and-link bedroom (which can be made up as a twin on request) located at the front of the house with views over the village. There is a single bedroom which benefits from views over the fields behind. Completing the accommodation is the bright and airy bathroom with shower over bath and WC.

Heading outside, there is a small patio and lawn area which is accessed via steep, uneven stone steps leading to an area overlooking the famous ‘Twenty Trees’, a local landmark when climbing Kinder Scout. There is roadside parking to the front of the cottage.

  • 2 bedrooms - 1 super-king-size zip-and-link (which can be made up as a twin on request) and 1 single

Situated in a busy place with people/dogs. Back garden is not separated to next doors so not very dog friendly. Dogs not allowed upstairs. But states dog friendly cottage. Had to do a little cleaning on arrival. Struggled to find things to do. Perfect if your a skilled hiker

Great location for walking in a lovely village. Clear instructions on directions and property information. Perhaps a little tired looking but more than comfy for an enjoyable stay. Slight issue with bed sheets but feel only fair to give opportunity for this to be resolved in future. Initially thought parking would be an issue arriving on the SaturdRead moreay but this turned out to be fine, I'd advise going past cottage to find easier parking just past it further up road a little. Lovely little cottage in an amazing location. Kitchen well equipped, although could do with a think about where might store food items. A few maintenance issues need addressing but otherwise enjoyed our stay.

This is a lovely property, in an excellent location for both walking and access to Manchester. We needed both and found the ideal spot in Hedgehog Cottage. The property is very well suited for a couple, plus one. Fantastic for walkers, with history on the doorstep.

Really cute little cottage, in a quiet area with lovely views from upstairs out over the garden. PROs: comfortable chairs and beds/well equipped kitchen/ beautiful area/ on outskirts of village so very quiet/ friendly and accessible owner CONS: steps to back garden are quite slippery when wet/ parking is very limited and on a narrow, bendy road HowRead moreever, neither of those cons would put us off visiting again, it's a lovely cottage!
