With its chic design touches and lovely old oak beams, this cottage is the perfect country retreat for up to six people and three dogs. After a wonderful day exploring the national park, come home and make your way to the open-plan living room/kitchen/diner. Pour yourself a glass of wine and cook up a feast in the kitchen area. If you have the kids or the dogs with you, they can safely play in the garden while you prep dinner, as it’s fully enclosed. Alternatively, light up the charcoal BBQ on the patio and dine alfresco. After dinner, sink into the sofa in the living area and catch up on your favourite TV shows as the wood burner gently crackles. When the day is done, there are three lovely bedrooms to choose from.
Grab your hiking boots and head to the pretty gorge at Chee Dale (8 miles). With its majestic crags and cliffs, it’s a gorgeous spot for a stroll. You’ll also have fun crossing the dale’s famous stepping stones. Alternatively, go on an underground adventure at Poole’s Cavern (12.5 miles) to explore vast limestone caverns adorned with stalactites and stalagmites. Back above ground, take a 0.5-mile walk up to the summit of Grin Hill to enjoy the spectacular views across the High Peak. On a clear day, you can see as far as Mam Tor in the distance.
