Deep in the Derbyshire Dales, this quintessential stone-built house is the perfect base from which to explore this stunning area on foot or by bicycle. Only a short walk from the upper reaches of Dovedale and Manifold Valley in the spectacular Peak District National Park, there is plenty to keep every type of adventurer busy, from hiking to climbing, kayaking and mountain biking. Afterwards, return to this welcoming retreat to warm up beside the roaring wood burner or enjoy a BBQ in the picturesque garden.

Brimming with character and charm, this sympathetically modernised property retains exposed beams, stone mullion windows and two fantastic inglenook fireplaces. The country-style kitchen is equipped with all your culinary needs, while a handy utility room is a great place for drying off wet boots and paws. Tuck into family feasts in the grand dining room with its warming wood burner and delightful window seat before sinking into one of the inviting sofas in the lounge while a second wood burner keeps you warm and cosy. Upstairs, three spacious bedrooms ensure a restful night’s sleep for all, while the free-standing bath is the perfect place to soothe tired muscles at the end of the day. Heading outside, the delightful cottage garden bordered by a dry-stone wall and mature trees is a peaceful spot for al fresco dining.

The unspoilt village of Wetton makes a great base for any keen adventurer - after a long day, grab a restorative bite to eat in the 14th-century pub or charming tearoom. Set out on foot to take on the wonderful Dovedale, discovering its towering limestone crags, grassy slopes and wildflower meadows, or visit Thor’s Cave (1 mile) with its Stone Age history and fabulous views. While adrenaline junkies spend a day at Alton Towers, just 12 miles away, those in search of some local culture should head for Chatsworth House, 19 miles away.

Pretty cottage in a lovely village with access to great walks. Standard of cleanliness slightly disappointing, the kitchen could do with an update.

We had a lovely stay in Ivy House, a great location and a spacious but cosy house. We would definitely stay here again. The only thing which led to a bit of stress was the slow email communication before we arrived and some confusion around a travel cot. They sorted it all out for us in the end which we were grateful for, but our initial email was Read moreunanswered for nearly 2 weeks which was disappointing. Hide

Ivy House is a lovely property situated in a typical Dales village. It was a really relaxing place to stay and very comfortable. We enjoyed being able to walk from the village and the surroundings are beautiful. There is also a nice pub in the village which gets very busy at the weekend, so advise to book ahead.

A lovely stay, lovely spot, lovely cottage. It had all we needed for cooking family meals. Note the small bedroom is very small. Really only suitable for children. We hadn't taken this in from the photos. All bathrooms including toilets are upstairs, worth noting for anyone with mobility issues. Lovely garden, gets the sun most of the day. Back garRead moreden secure enough for our lurcher. Next to church, with local pub a few steps away, that does simple home cooked food. Great walking from the door. Hide
