Recharge your batteries with an unforgettable escape in this superb couple’s getaway that’s packed with charming features. Less than a mile from popular Matlock in a secluded hilltop position, this delightful accommodation offers spectacular views and a variety of walking and cycling options.

Make your way up the winding uphill track and you will reach this single-storey stone cottage, set within private grounds. At one end of the spacious room is a handsome kitchen, complete with farmhouse-style dresser and a dining table with bench seats. The king-size bed is in the centre of the room, below a picture window that showcases glorious views of the valley, while at the far end is the lounge area, with comfortable sofas and a Smart TV, and off the open-plan space is a wet-room-style shower room. Enjoy warm weather in the lawned garden, where the terrace is equipped with a BBQ and furniture for you to make the most of the tranquil environment.

In Matlock, the county town of Derbyshire, you’ll find independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Take the cable car and whizz up to the Heights of Abraham, a 60-acre hilltop park with illuminated caverns, woodland trails and superb views, or head to the ancient woodland of Lumsdale Valley, where there are spectacular waterfalls. A lovely original cottage which is very cosy with a comfortable bed and efficient bathroom. Although the property is reached via a long track, we did not find this a problem. The cottage is in a fabulous area for walks and many excellent restaurants within easy reach. There is also a Sainsbury's close at hand to stock up on provisions. Excellent studio, great comfort and facilities. I would recommend if it is your first time driving there to do so in daylight as pitch black and difficult to navigate to the right destination. But other than the initial confusion a great destination.
