This delightful period property is located in the historic village of Castleton, deep within the Peak District National Park. The two-bedroom cottage makes an ideal base for couples and small families with a love of the great outdoors. The surrounding area is a haven for walkers, with popular routes to the summit of Mam Tor and through the spectacular limestone gorge at Winnats Pass (both within 1.5 miles).
The stone cottage, which dates back to the 1600s, exudes character and charm, thanks to striking exposed beams and rustic stonework. The welcoming lounge is a lovely spot in which to unwind at the end of the day, with a plump sofa and two armchairs set around a flame-effect electric fire and a TV/DVD. This room boasts a fabulous beamed ceiling and houses a collection of cute accessories and artwork. The cottage-style kitchen/diner is equipped with everything needed for a self-catering getaway, and has a large, oval dining table for sharing mealtimes as a group. Upstairs, discover two traditionally styled bedrooms, one of which has a handy en-suite WC. The family bathroom completes this level. Outside, the small, walled courtyard enjoys distant views of the surrounding peaks and is a lovely spot to sit with a glass of wine on a balmy night. The property has private parking for two cars.
The picturesque village of Castleton has a network of narrow, winding streets to explore, lined with a fine collection of independent shops, pubs, and tearooms. The town is renowned for its stunning show caves, including Blue John Cavern with its extremely rare blue stone. For history enthusiasts, a visit to the ruins of Peveril Castle – one of England’s earliest Norman fortresses - is a must. Set high above the village and with jaw-dropping views of Hope Valley, it really is a sight to behold. Days out from the cottage include Chatsworth House (15 miles) and the spa town of Buxton (10 miles).
