Located between Bakewell and Matlock, the village of Youlgreave makes a good base for exploring the Derbyshire Dales district. Once a centre for lead mining, Youlgreave has characterful narrow streets and old buildings, including a magnificent church that reflects its past prosperity. Matlock, 8.5 miles away, is a lovely town on the edge of the Peak District National Park with nearby Matlock Bath popular among visitors for its Heights of Abraham cable cars and Little Switzerland gorge. Just 4 miles away, Bakewell – home of the unique pudding – is ideally situated on the banks of the River Wye, and has beautiful stone buildings, a medieval arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards that are all must-see.
Within the mellow stone walls of this charming cottage are beautifully decorated rooms with exposed beams, Berber carpets and a calming colour palette. A warm welcome awaits in the lovely lounge, where quality furnishings and a wood burner set the scene for relaxing nights in, while a TV and DVD will meet all your entertainment needs. There’s a dining suite here for mealtimes, and everything you’ll want for fuss-free self-catering is in the light and airy kitchen close by. At the end of a busy day, you’ll be delighted by the two first-floor bedrooms, both with lovely soft furnishings, crisp linen and fluffy towels. One has a double Victorian bedstead and the other has a single bed, and they share the use of an ultra-modern shower room.
Enjoy the country air in a choice of two outdoor areas; to the front of the cottage, there’s a garden with furniture and a summerhouse, while to the rear there’s a small patio with a bistro table and chairs.
