The 9am checkout is our only negative. Other than that we were happy with the cottage.

The cottage was very clean, cosy, comfortable and well equiped. Plenty of seating, Beds very comfortable with stylish modern ensuite bathrooms. Great pub a stones throw away and usually located for lovely park district walks. We were a group of friends on a New Year break and we would highly recommend Hillcrest Barn. Very well equipped property, super clean and great location for exploring the Peake District. Only a few minor gripes. Firstly having to strip the beds prior to leaving and putting sheets in a laundry bag - as cleaning is included in the price, why did we have to do that? The second minor issue is the heating - the heating setting was set too highRead more and timed for much longer than was necessary - this is very wasteful of energy. Finally, the sofas. They look as if they could do with being replaced. Not very comfortable and look a little shabby. These are minor points - we thoroughly enjoyed staying at the property and owuld be pleased to recommend it. Hide

Lovely cottage. Expensive. Lacked wood for lounge fire. No roasting tin. Twin bedroom had a "let light in" blind. Garden poorly maintained. Overgrown with weeds leaving no space for garden chairs around table. Ugly garden table and chairs. BUT MAIN ISSUE was boiler flue was at face height and pointing directly at our mouths as we sat there. Hence wRead moree could not sit there if boiler in use....anyone showering or washing dishes. Would be interested to know if this is within HEALTH & SAFETY GUIDLINES. But cottage was as described and we enjoyed it. Hide

Although the garden was small, the steps were very steep and would benefit having a hand rail. Everything was clean except under beds.

The cottage was everything we could have wanted except for. 1.The bedroom blinds were very light with no other option to keep the room dark in early morning light. We used a travelling rug to cover it. 2. The boiler in the garden emitted very powerful and likely toxic fumes, smoke when "on". It made sitting out in the back garden very difficult. WeRead more turned all radiators and towel rails off to prevent the fumes. This would not prevent us booking the same cottage again. Hide

We had a wonderful stay at Hillcrest Barn, everything was as described. Housekeeper Anne Gough was very helpful and informative of the local amenities and the walking of the surrounding area.

Weve stayed in many holiday cottages and this was probably the best. From the tasteful decor, the layout of the property, the location, to the very well stocked kitchen and all those little extras - rugs and throws, cushions for the dining room benches, the ease of rubbish disposal and the great pub just across the road! Nice cottage, bit over the top on the grey walls making it quite dark inside to be honest, was clean but not spotless and lots of signs around the house which were a little intrusive - would have been better listing in a guide rather than around the house very warm and cosy though and Anne was really helpful :-)

The property is in an amazing position and easy to get to many places in The Peak District. There is a lovely cafe in the village. you need to watch as the pub in the village not always open every day. Some further equipment is required. There was only one large frying and it would be useful to have a small one as well. There was only the large Read moregrill pan and one baking tray. It would have been useful to have a further meat tray and another baking tray. Especially as the property is for 8 people. There is only a dust pan and brush. It would have been useful to have a sweeping brush and/or a small vacuum that did carpet and hard floors. A couple of the rugs needed a vacuum. Also, the twin bedroom next to the double bedroom was dusty around the windows - a few cobwebs. Hide

Accommodation was spotless and attention to detail was appreciated. Everything we needed was to hand, very well equipped throughout, information regarding local area, comfortable beds and hot showers. We ate in the Bulls Head just across the road from the cottage and all 6 of us enjoyed very tasty and good portions of food along with breakfast at Read moreSmitheys on the Saturday morning; both venues had helpful and friendly staff. We did a 9.5 mile circular walk from the cottage to Lathkill Weir in the Lathkill Dale, visited Monsal Head, Bakewell and Chatsworth House. Location as perfect, well be back. Hide
