An attractive, stone barn, 5 miles from Bakewell in the Peak District, this Derbyshire holiday home is perfect for an extended family group. Sleeping eight guests, the four-bedroom retreat is in a superb setting for walking, cycling and the many other pursuits possible in the national park. Step straight out to explore the countryside. Follow the 4-mile Lathkill Dale route that takes you past caves and beside the River Lathkill to a waterfall, then back across the top of the scenic dale, or hike 2 miles up to Magpie Mine to see the remains of a 19th-century lead mine. Head into Bakewell to potter in the shops and pause in a tearoom for a portion of the town’s famous pudding.

Enter the barn and you’ll discover a cosy property with an abundance of exposed wood, as well as natural stone, giving it a welcoming ambience. The lounge, where there is a metal spiral staircase, has plentiful soft seating to recline on as you watch TV or chat together, while the kitchen/diner is another fabulous room. With a flagstone floor, this is arranged with ample, stylish country cream units at one end and a dining space at the other, with a farmhouse table to gather around and a piano for that homely feel. Also downstairs are a utility room and a shower room. Climb the wide spiral staircase to access the upper level of the barn, where there are two twin bedrooms, a king size and a bunk bedroom. There is also a stylish family bathroom.

Soak up the Derbyshire sunshine out in the garden. Here there is a lawn for children to play on and a table and chairs for outside dining.

Great location. Very clean and tidy. Bunk beds rather wobbly and need attention. Boisterous children, as they sometimes are, be aware! The 9am departure time is ridiculously early. We enjoyed the cottage, and would recommend.

We had a great stay, but when we had a couple of issues Original Cottages batted us off to the owners/housekeeper with no assistance offered.

We were a family of four adults and three children. The Barn worked very well for us. Everything we needed was provided. We had a couple of small issues which the property manager dealt with very promptly. We did have parking access problems a couple of times but that was caused by inconsiderate parking by car and bike owners on busy sunny days.

The barn is a perfect location for exploring local walks and properties. Kitchen excellently equipped for self catering. Property spacious and wonderful for a family holiday with 2 showers and toilets. Highly recommend it as home from home stay. Pub close for meals and tea room too.

The property was well planned and practical, comfortable and pleasant. The location, at the heart of a charming village with a good pub and another restaurant more or less next door and walks from the cottage, could hardly have been better. Our only problem was wasps, which appeared to have a nest above the (unused) front door, from which they had Read moredirect access into the living room. It should be possible to do something about this. Hide

Loved the barn. Perfect location just over from a lovely village pub. Great walks all around the cottage. Property description - It would have been nice to know what appliances where at the property before hand. Couldnt use the toaster as it triped the electric every time we tried.
