A welcoming hideaway for three guests, this attractive stone property is nestled under the majestic Huckow’s Edge within the village of Foolow, an excellent base for walking and cycling across the Peak District National Park. Take a stroll around the pretty duck pond and enjoy a slap-up meal at the pub before discovering your surroundings, navigating the tapestry of hills, pastures and woodland to reach Eylam, a mysterious village with a fascinating plague history. Tideswell is 3.5 miles away with its impressive church that’s known as the ‘cathedral of the peak’, but venturing further will reward you with the eerie Blue John’s Caverns 11 miles away, a must for any adventurer. The Victorian spa town of Buxton (11.5 miles) is known for being the highest market town in England and boasts a grand Edwardian Opera House, historic Old Hall Hotel and views across to Grin Low Woods and Solomon’s Temple. Rail enthusiasts will adore a ride on the Peak Rail, hopping on board at Darley Dale 12.5 miles away for a thrilling journey.

Had a lovely short break. Nice walk over to Eyam close by. The cottage is spot on as is the pub and food just over the road.

Lovely cottage and well equipped kitchen. I think maybe mattress in double bedroom needs replacing as it felt bumpy but still had a good sleep cottage kept warm at all times

The Dormy Cottage is in a lovely little village right near a fantastic pub and close to lots of lovely walks. It is a very cosy cottage with everything that you need. We even had milk and biscuits left for our arrival which was a lovely touch. The only slightly negative is the bathroom - the toilet is very cramped (if you have any mobility issues tRead morehis may be difficult) and the shower is a hand held one over the bath with no shower guard but there is plenty of hot water and the bath is big and comfortable so a perfect excuse to relax in a bath. We have already discussed a second booking so obviously would recommend. Hide

The cottage is really nice, its very cosy, very clean and a good base to get to other places in that area, we had a really good time, and a really nice pub across the road.

Compact, lovely cottage right opposite a decent pub. Entrance straight off the street (no porch). Well-equipped, bright, clean kitchen with access to a small, private, enclosed courtyard out the back. The kitchen has a gas oven/hob, compact dishwasher, microwave, filter coffee machine, kettle, toaster, fridge, and all crockery, cutlery, utensils aRead morend cooking equipment. No recycling bins. Decent living room with comfy sofa and two armchairs. Smart Freeview TV [inc Netflix] and decent, reliable WiFi. Downstairs bathroom which is quite tight, the shower lacks a curtain and water goes everywhere, but it was clean and airy and there was plenty of almost instant hot water. Upstairs a lovely, roomy double bedroom at the front and a nice single second bed. We stayed in September and didn't need any heating, the temperature was lovely in the cottage. Reasonable price and excellent service and information from Original Cottages. Warmly recommended. Hide

The property is wonderfully located. The bedrooms are fairly large and the living room was Ok although putting a large 3 piece suite in it took up too much space. The kitchen was cramped although everything worked OK. A gas oven is a novelty which took som getting used to. The space outside is very small and a disappointment although I realise thaRead moret nothing can be done about that. The only bathroom and loo were downstairs and cramped because there is a large bath in it. Ok but the shower which had lots of pressure and hot water had no upper fixing. So had to be held by hand. There is no shower curtain so the room gets soaked. A walk in shower would be far better and in fact and upstairs toilet at least would be much better and there is room. It need a makeover. For us there seemed to be too many ornaments and artificial flowers. Notwithstanding all this we had a good time in a good village and basically a good cottage. Hide

A lovely little property, well equipped and very clean and well kept. A non slip map in the bath would be useful and a recycling bin as well. Apart from that it was ideal.

Dormy is an excellent base for exploring the Peak District. Walks are immediately available from the front door including a nice hike to the plague village of Eyam. There are numerous circular walks with varying distances and challenges that are all accessible from Dormy.. Further afield there is Chatsworth House,Hathersage,Stanage Edge, Castleton,Read moreBakewell even Kinder Scout. Dormy has an excellent heating system,nice cooker and good kitchen facilities Unfortunately the cottage does have some features that need to be addressed especially in 2023. Firstly there are no facilities for recycling. In this current climate of everyone trying to make a difference for the sake of our planet, this is unbelievable. Secondly,there is no proper shower and no shower curtain! When showering everything in the bathroom gets soaked! Thirdly Dormy is for 3 guests yet at the dining table only 2 chairs are present! The bookcase at the top of the stairs is a definite health and safety concern and finally, the yard at the back of the property is postage size.Many of these points have been noted in the visitors book in the cottage already but none have been addressed. Finally I had to contact Original Cottages to point out the inaccuracies of their description of walks from Dormy that were available on the website. This coupled with little or no information about walking opportunities in the area made for a frustrating time in terms of our holiday and goes some way to explaining the above scores. Hide

Many items broken or worn out and needed replacing. Although it was a good location , the road was very busy and noisy , we went off peak to I imagine it would be even worse in peak season

Enjoyed ourselves . Mainly a walking holiday. Walks were all nearby. Heating was good. Easy to contact owner who replied promptly.

We had a lovely break at Dormy. The location is great for exploring the peaks and dales of Derbyshire. Some lovely walks from right outside the cottage door. Lovely quiet pub just across the way that serves good food. We would certainly return!!
