This fantastic holiday retreat is set amongst a cluster of cottages in a peaceful little valley, nestling in the rolling hills south of Matlock. It’s the ideal bolthole for a couple on a romantic getaway wanting a great base from which to explore the numerous local attractions. The High Peak Trail, just 3 miles away, is great for walkers and cyclists. Carsington Water with its water sports, cycle trails and birdwatching is just over the hill, 4 miles away. The lovely historic town of Wirksworth with its heritage railway, Heritage Centre, quirky Northern Lights Cinema and many a pub and restaurant is just 2 miles away. Belper's award-winning market town in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Corridor, 6 miles distant, is another must-see.

Inside, the open-plan lounge, dining area and kitchen surround a central double-sided wood burner. The lounge has sumptuous furniture (including a sofa bed if it is needed), while a coordinated dining area has an attractive table and four chairs for eating home-cooked meals. There is also a desk and chair. The kitchen is well stocked with everything guests should need to rustle up those delicious meals. Up the feature oak staircase, guests will find the vaulted bedroom with a king-size bed, which also has a quiet reading area and wonderful balcony looking out over the fields

Outside, the terrace, balcony and patio are ideal places to share a drink of wine or two while admiring the stunning views.

We stayed at Little House for a week and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing break. The house is comfortable and well equipped, and the view from the balcony is superb. It is also ideally situated for a number of attractions, and there are numerous walks in the area. The owner made us very welcome and the 'weRead morelcome tray' that greeted us on arrival was a lovely touch. We will be returning. Hide

We have had a great time at Little House over the last week. The Owner and her dogs are so friendly and welcoming. The views from the cottage are beautiful and we have had a lovely time. The Bear (about 3 minute drive) does amazing food and you will get a very warm welcome. Our dog loved the place and was even more relaxed at Little House than heRead more is in our own house. The Little House was lovely and comfortable, well equipped and clean, even a spare lead if needed! Was in a beautiful setting surrounded by fields, very quiet and peaceful. Small enclosed garden ideal for our dog. The owner Valerie is lovely and helpful. Unfortunately, our week was spoiled by the rain but did manage to get out to visit Matlock, BRead moreakewell and Carsington Water and Cromford Mill all within short distance. Booked the pasta cookery course at Coughlans at Peak Village shopping mall so needed a place to stay. Original Cottages to the rescue! and found this gem. What a find. Beautiful place. Perfect view. We came for peace and quiet and this place delivered. We have fallen in love with Derbyshire as it has such beautiful surroundings. This lodge was beautiful and catered for your every need. The dog was also taken care of as Micky had treats and a toy. Highly recommended!

Great property, well done Valerie! Lovely walks, National Trust properties and gardens. The Hanging Gate pub on Ashbourne Road has fab food. 'Friends' cafe in Ashbourne tea & cakes. Off to Strutts Mill in Belper today for a tour.

We enjoyed a lovely holiday in Little House - it has everything needed for a relaxing and comfortable stay. We enjoyed visiting Bakewell, Ashbourne and Matlock Bath where the Fish & Chips are excellent. Great food at the Hope & Anchor, the Bull's Head in Belper and the Old Gate Inn at Brassington. Situated perfectly in an area of outstanding beauty, wonderfully quiet, with everything you could need for an lovely holiday & close enough to get to everywhere you could possibly wish to visit in the Peak District & surrounding area. We did loads of walking & got quite addicted to watching the cows go for milking each morning & evening. The owner is the perfect hostess, catering to her guests every need. We were reluctant to leave & will definitely be returning as soon as we can. Fabulous location, very peaceful but within easy reach of local attractions. The standard of fittings at Little House are very high and Lovely little touches by the owner are very welcoming.
