Peaceful & secure location. Lovely garden, historic interior, and a warm welcome from Jeremy the owner, who was friendly, approachable, and always responsive. 6 adults and 4 dogs had a great time during our week in Elton House. House was clean and tidy throughout with a welcome pack full of useful treats. Locally made bread, butter, marmalade, mRead moreilk, eggs and cake etc. Had most everything we needed for our stay including lovely thick stone walls which kept us cool during the hottest week of the year (May 26) and the humans and dogs made good use of the lovely big enclosed garden listening to bird song and our horsey neighbour. Our sneaky lurcher escapologist was able to leap the stone wall (under the trees) but didnt go far. There were two single fridges and two dishwashers in the medium sized kitchen, and we found our way around the electric range style cooker which was a bit slower to heat up than we are used to. There were a range of room and bed sizes of varying firmness levels, so hopefully something for everyone. Two of the double rooms also had single beds which came in handy for our group. Bedding was all spotlessly clean and towels too though some were little bit bracing :) if you like a little bit of luxury towelling then would suggest bringing your own. Due to the age of the house there were some (to be expected) noisy floorboards and doors - particularly at night - so sleepy trips to the loo were accompanied by an orchestra of creaks, groans, squeaks and occasional gurgles. We only had one issue that we raised with Jeremy and which he tried his best to resolve. This was plumbing related - the challenging showering experience and a non working ground floor shower and sink cold tap. We did find all the showers were fairly powerless and had very temperamental temperature controls. These were not all resolved during our stay despite a visit from a plumber - however two of the bathrooms (ground and family) had lovely full size baths so nimble people were able to use those instead. All in all we had a lovely time and appreciated our time at Elton House. Thank you Jeremy. Hide

We converged on Elton House from all over the country. 3 generations in one place for a few days. We played games, the children loved the garden, and went on plenty of walks. A beautiful old cottage with plenty of charm in a quiet location within a small village. The cottage has a sizeable enclosed garden with garden furniture and a BBQ, perfect for a summer afternoon/evening. We walked from the cottage to Robin Hoods Stride which was nearby. The cottage is perfectly placed for many walks and visits to the likes of DoveRead moredale and Chatsworth House which are a short drive away. Locally, The Miners Standard pub was very atmospheric and served lovely food. Further afield at Rowsley, the Grouse and Claret was a pleasant place to eat with a varied menu. We were a group of 6 and had plenty of space in the cottage not to get under each others feet. The inner hall, which we called the Boot Room, was ideal for booting up and keeping our boots during our stay. We used the lounge as a meeting point with a tea or coffee in the morning before breakfast and in the evening before dinner at the long table in the dining area, followed by a games evening each day. This is a great find for both a family break and a holiday with friends. Hide

We were a 3 generational party, 6 adults, 4 teenagers & 4 dogs. Elton house was the perfect place for us to relax, have fun, be apart, but most importantly be together. All the downstairs rooms were spacious enough for 10. We were very lucky with the weather but loved the open fires when the temperature dropped. The garden was a great host to an EaRead morester egg hunt, racket games, relaxing & fully enclosed making it excellent for our 4 lively dogs. The walks from the door are across stunning, beautiful countryside. The nearest shop is a 5 minute drive away in Winster. Thank you Jeremy for the welcome hamper and flowers, much appreciated. Elton house is definitely a property that we would like to return to. We absolutely loved it. Hide

This is a lovely house run by its charming owner Jeremy. He couldnt have been nicer and was there in a flash if you called him. The house was very clean, and also very comfortable. The walled garden was a great space that we thoroughly enjoyed being in, and the covered terrace area was great too.
