This Grade II-listed cottage sits at the heart of a sleepy village surrounded by the hills and dales of the White Peak. An elegant bolthole for four, it boasts a host of period features including exposed beams, mullion windows and a wood burner in both social spaces. For an authentic taste of local life, pudding-lovers’ favourite Bakewell is less than 6 miles.
Once two cottages, the property extends a warm welcome as you step through the front door to find a lovely lounge with a beamed ceiling and choice of sofas arranged before a wood burner and Smart TV. The dining room had an oak dining tabel and chairs and an additional sofa; for informal food and drinks there’s a breakfast table in the kitchen. All the essentials of home are here, while the cellar houses a washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer. A cottage-style staircase leads to the first floor, where the bathroom has a feature stone wall and there are two dreamy bedrooms. Choose between a double bedroom and a super-king-size room that can be made up as a twin on request; each has low windows and ceiling beams. Outside, a cottage-style front garden sets the property back from the road, and a shared path to the side leads to a more private back garden with outdoor furniture. Secure bike storage is available, while parking is on-street, subject to availability.
The River Bradford skirts the village, winding towards Youlgreave (2 miles) where you’ll find a range of shops, cafes and inns. Footpaths criss-cross the countryside in every direction – the long-distance Limestone Way and White Peak Way both pass through the village. Head to Bakewell to buy a pudding; the biggest town in the Peak District National Park is also famous for its mellow stone buildings, medieval bridge and outdoor market.
