Thanks to its vaulted ceilings and exposed stone walls, this traditional Derbyshire cottage offers an enchanting retreat for families or groups of four. Nestled in the Peak District National Park, guests are spoiled for choice when it comes to the many scenic walking trails and quaint villages waiting to be discovered. The host village of Birchover offers a choice of welcoming pubs and local shops, with a 17th- century inn sitting right next door. For a wider choice of shops and places to eat, head to the historic village of Winster (2 miles), the market town of Bakewell (5.5 miles) or the county town of Matlock (7.5 miles). And with plenty of scenic walking trails on offer, guests have some of UK’s most gorgeous landscapes right at their feet, including routes to Stanton Moor (1 mile), Nine Ladies Stone Circle (1 mile), and Robin Hood’s Stride (4 miles).

The property itself is entered through the pretty courtyard, into the sitting room. With a flame effect electric fire, a Freeview TV, and some lovely comfortable seating, this is the perfect place to relax after a day’s exploring. The dining room offers more seating and has a lovely little serving hatch looking into the kitchen. The kitchen is just off from the sitting room and offers a table and chairs and a well-equipped space for rustling up some tasty meals or gathering to plan the day ahead. Upstairs there are two spacious bedrooms, one offering twin beds and the other a double. The double room has an en-suite shower room, accessed by going up a few steps. There is also a well-equipped family bathroom on this floor.

Outside is a pretty courtyard that faces the quiet road that runs through Birchover. Here you can watch the world go by and enjoy some al-fresco dining on a warm evening.

The cottage was beautiful. It was everything we expected and more. Hosts made us feel really welcome. The attention to detail was excellent, they had thought of everything you need. It would certainly be a place we would recommend and also revisit.
