Enjoy a best-of-all-worlds break at this tastefully updated cottage. Original beams and contemporary styling in the open-plan social space are complemented by two en-suite bedrooms, while a wood burner and patio garden add all-season appeal. Equally impressive is the location: on the edge of the Peak District National Park, and only minutes by train from Sheffield.
Perfectly placed for exploring the Peak District and beyond, this handsome rural retreat sits within a peaceful hamlet with pubs, a shop and excellent walks from the doorstep. Park and unpack at your own pace; the ground floor is a fabulous social hub where kitchen, dining and living areas share scene-stealing exposed beams and an array of high-end furnishings and fittings. Cook companionably in the contemporary kitchen – complete with bar-style seating at its central island – then linger at the quirky dining suite while the dishwasher does its work. Beyond, the lounge furniture is arranged before a wood burner and Smart TV. When it’s time to sleep, two sanctuary-like king-size bedrooms on the first floor each benefit from their own shower room. A private, secure patio seating area to the front of the property makes the perfect setting for fresh air, food and drinks.
Totley and neighbouring Dore share a station that’s first stop out of Sheffield on the scenic Hope Valley Line – it takes just minutes to get into the heart of the city, while at the other end of the route Manchester would otherwise be a 40-mile drive. Totley also affords easy access to the Peak District National Park – visit Chatsworth House (9.5 miles) en route to Bakewell (11 miles), or discover the story behind the so-called ‘plague village’ of Eyam (10 miles). Further into the Hope Valley, Castleton (13.5 miles) is famous as home of Derbyshire Blue John stone, and a great place to pick up the trails to Winnats Pass and Mam Tor.
