We had a wonderful stay at Toll Bar cottage, with 3 generations of family. The welcome package and card was much appreciated. The hosts were helpful and responsive. A beautiful cottage, plenty of space for dining and relaxing with a well equipped kitchen, great to have separate fridge/freezer and washing machine. We especially loved the conservatorRead morey and big open doors to the lounge. My 6ft father had no problems with the doorways, the cottage has heaps of country character as you would hope. The views are outstanding of the river and toll bridge which is steeped in history. Hot tub clean and spacious and enjoyed by all. Baslow is a picturesque village with pubs, restaurants and cafes. We used the local coop a few times. My sister visited from nearby and we fitted 3 cars on the drive. The walls are thick and we did not notice the nearby road. Nearby places we visited were Youlgreave for paddling, Bradwell, Castleton and Rowlsey Peak Rail for a steam train ride to Matlock. A special and memorable stay, thank you Hide

We have just had our fourth stay at the Cottage and we have been staying since 2024. Thank you to Shada and Paul for a much needed break. As usual the cottage is cosy, comfortable, and still has that wonderful homely feel. It is so relaxing to have coffee in the garden room overlooking the river. Its heaven! And it was very thoughtful of you bothRead more for the goodies left for us on arrival. I read the review of one of the previous guest and I felt they might not have chosen the right place. They might not have appreciated the charm, history, and the quirks that make the cottage what it is. It is quite clear in the brochure that it is a cottage; Toll Bar has stood at this place for over 200 yrs so it shouldnt be a surprise that it has low beams, ceilings, and the doorways, so if you are 6ft you better duck. However, six footers upstairs: no need to duck. I can believe that the hanging rail and the wicker drawers might not be an enough for some guests but our stays 4 days and 2 days we found it to be adequate. Last comment, noise, all I can say is we have never had a problem, the thick stone walls and the double glazing any external sound has never given us any issue. However, I appreciate everybody has their own tolerance for sound. Oh, cars! We have a Skoda Estate and our friends an Astra and we never had a problem parking one behind the other. Last year we parked three cars, one to the side and the other two behind each other. Finally, I would recommending Toll Bar for a charming break in the Peak District and I look forward to returning, all those lovely walks in the peaks, little secret, lazy mornings, Charlies for breakfast, just across the road. The house is right on the VERY busy A623 & the Old Bridge Rd to the side. If you are not used to road noise 24/7 this place is not for you. We were exhausted! If you are quite tall then it's not for you, low ceilings, beams & doorways. Lack of storage in all bedrooms, just small hanging rails & a set of 4 small wicker drawers. There wasn't room forRead more a 2nd car on the drive. Attention to detail needed in some areas, eg, no heating on on our arrival. It is a pretty property with views of the river. Hide
