Escape to this cosy lodge on a working farm surrounded by miles of uninterrupted countryside. Set out along the Manifold Valley cycle trail or along the spectacular gorge of Dovedale before stopping for a bite to eat in nearby Ashbourne (11.5 miles), Leek (9 miles) or Buxton (15 miles). At the end of the day, return to your rural retreat for a relaxing evening in front of the wood burner or an al fresco meal with a view.

Perfect for year-round getaways with loved ones, the open-plan living space has been finished with a cosy wood burner, comfortable sofas, warm rugs, ambient lighting and a TV/DVD. When the sun is shining, fire up the BBQ on the decked terrace outside before dining alfresco at the garden furniture on the lawn below. With far-reaching views over rolling countryside, lucky guests will be able to spot some local wildlife as the sun goes down.

Tucked away on the owner’s working farm, this charming lodge is the perfect place to unwind. Situated between the two villages of Butterton and Grindon overlooking the Manifold Valley, there are countless rural walks to be enjoyed directly from the doorstep. Longer walks lead from Thor’s Cave (3.5 miles) and the Manifold Valley (2.5 miles) while Waterhouses (4 miles) and Parsley Hay (11.5 miles) offer bicycle hire for the Tissington Trail. Stock up on supplies or stop for a hearty meal in the nearby towns of Ashbourne, Leek and Buxton or test your nerves at exciting Alton Towers (10.5 miles).

Such a beautiful spot, the views are incredible!!! A little tricky to find the very first time but everything was perfect, it was lovely and clean, warm and cosy and surprisingly quiet given that it's on a working farm, we didn't hear a thing. Didn't have to see or speak to anyone the whole of our stay, and honestly that's how we like it. Internet Read morewasn't always great, but that's to be expected in a place like this, and actually added to our peace. Would definitely stay again. Hide

This is a beautiful, peaceful place to stay. Simple, cosy and comfortable and with the mostly lovely view you can stare at for hours...particularly when it turns into a snowscape as it did when we were there. Lovely walks into the Manifold Valley from the doorstep. A place to rest, ponder, walk, eat and sleep!

The surrounding area looks like a scrapyard and the access road is terrible. Front door is dropped and hard to close. TV remote is wrong and missing functions. BBQ was filthy with mould on arrival, cleaned days later with chemicals and still unusable with no charcoal provided. Shed wood was just lacquered waste panels. A lovely hideaway in a fantastic location. All on one level, for ease of use. Views fantastic, with open countryside all around for exploring, with or without (with in our case) 4 legged friends. Plus a secure fenced area for the dogs to have a late night, early morning sniff about. No bath but great shower, one of the best experienced. Lovely stay here with our 2 dogs. It's perfect if you need some isolation and the views are incredible! The beds were really comfy and the lodge was lovely and warm with lovely hot shower! The doggos next door did often pop up but they stay on their side, one of our dogs is reactive and we had no trouble at all. We really enjoyed our stay at Hillsdale Lodge. Such beautiful views from the property and lovely to see the horses and livestock in the adjacent field. The accomodation is very clean and comfortable with a lovely relaxed vibe and the kitchen is well stocked with everything one needs - a real home from home. If you have dogs and looking for peace and quiet, this is the place for you. It's very homely and has everything you need. The view from the lounge and dining room windows is just so relaxing. A car is definitely needed to get to the lovely villages dotted about for supplies

Lovely lodge on working farm, very clean with well equipped kitchen, lovely local walks and good views. Good sized rooms, compact toilet and shower room and excellent outside space. Enclosed small dog area was great, however farm dogs (who are very friendly and curious) could jump the fence and enter the area, which was problematic with our dogs. This place was lovely, it's accessible but you need to drive carefully down to the lodge. There are a lot of creepy crawlies about, but also cows, horses, chickens, a cat and a fox too. It's a little slice of paradise and calm. The shower pressure is divine and it's nice and hot. The kitchen is well equipped and the living room is homely. This lovely little lodge is tucked away at the end of a farm. The garden is nice and secure. The lodge itself has everything you need for a comfortable holiday. The views are outstanding. We will be returning next year. 10/10

The acvomodation was lovely and we were aware that the cottage was on a working farm. There was a gate to secure the garden space which we kept closed to orevent the farm animals from roaming into the garden. However the farm dogs could get the the fence of the neighbouring cottage and would jump through when we left or arrived. A super getaway to visit family at the start of the festive period. The lodge was decorated wonderfully for the season. It is well equipped, very warm and comfortable and in a beautiful setting. Absolutely amazing place to stay. Cosy lodge with all equipment provided. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Would highly recommend to anyone wishing to enjoy a relaxing trip. Slept well throughout our stay. Great outside space but too cold to enjoy. May come back in the summer to appreciate it more.

It was a first time that my family went on holiday with dogs. The lodge looked very appealing to me, rural location, beautiful view of Peak District, fresh air, peace and quiet. The lodge location by the farm was actually nice as I love to watch all sort of animals living their life totally free range.
