Boasting lovely village views, this charming mid-terrace cottage features three double bedrooms and a fabulous social space complete with a wood burner. Within easy reach of Bakewell and Buxton, it’s pet-friendly and offers an authentic taste of Peak District life.

Stairs rise from the entrance hall, while fully-glazed double doors open into the sitting room, a welcoming social space with a view of Tideswell’s famous Cathedral of the Peak. Tiled flooring runs throughout the ground floor with underfloor heating but for added ambience fire-up the wood burner as you stretch out on the sofa to watch TV. Adjacent, the kitchen/diner has a cheery colour palette, country-style cabinets and a dining suite positioned perfectly by the window seat. Pack light – the rear porch/utility area houses laundry facilities. When it’s time to sleep, three bedrooms are arranged across the two upper floors. On the first, a prettily panelled bathroom sits alongside a double and a small double bedroom, each with a feature fireplace. On the second floor, the king-size room is chic and spacious, a skylight set within its sloping ceiling. Watch the world go by from the bench at the front of the property, or follow a few stone steps from the rear porch up to a small courtyard garden.

There’s parking in the village so you can explore at your own pace – in the heart of the White Peak, Tideswell is home to an enticing array of independent shops, pubs and cafes, and – built entirely in the 14th century – a magnificent church. Walks from the village include Tideswell Dale (1 mile), while the impressive Monsalhead Viaduct is 4.4 miles away. For adventures further afield, drive 5 miles to the ‘plague village’ of Eyam, or 10 miles to the grandeur of Chatsworth House – from there it’s another 5 miles to Bakewell, birthplace of the famous pudding. Victorian Buxton with its wonderfully restored Opera House and immaculate Pavilion Gardens is just 7.5 miles away.

Lovely cottage in a wonderful location. Ideal base for exploring this area of the Peak District. Beds are extremely comfortable. We happened to stay during a warm, dry week, but it was clear the owners have made sure the cottage would be warm and cosy to return to in colder or wetter weather. Well equipped kitchen. Many extra touches provided whichRead more gives a feel of very generous hospitality while staying here. We loved it and were very sad to have to leave! Hide
