Ashford in the Water is a quaint Derbyshire village situated in the White Peak. Home to the most photographed bridge in Britain which crosses the River Wye, it boasts two pubs, a pretty church, tea room, village store and delicatessen and plenty of charming cottages. If you’re looking to soak up a bit of history during your stay, historic Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are only a short drive away.

The cottage is approached via the pretty walled front garden, which leads into the cosy sitting room. With a beamed ceiling, original gritstone fireplace with cast iron gas stove, an exposed stone wall and even a charming window seat, this is the perfect space in which to relax and watch TV after a long day’s walking or cycling. At the rear of the cottage is the kitchen dining room, which features a slate floor, cream units, a farmhouse style dresser and small kitchen table. With a vaulted ceiling and door leading out to the yard, this is a light and airy room for cooking and enjoying your meals.

Upstairs, the large bedroom has been decorated in the same fresh, clean tones, and features a large window, original fireplace, while the bathroom next door is yet another light and airy space. At the rear of the cottage a shared yard leads to outbuildings, handy for storing bikes and there is a quiet spot to sit with table and chairs. The sunny patio at the front is complete with a pretty garden table and chairs – a lovely spot to enjoy a morning coffee, take in scents from the thriving flower beds beyond and watch the world go by.

Perfectly located cottage for the Monsal Trail and other local attractions. Spent a week at Thorpe Cottage to take part in a Gravel Ride from Bakewell. The cottage was perfect for my wife and myself, well equipped and comfortable. The Bull was very convenient to eat although booking recommended.

What a fantastic cottage, modernised but keeping lots of it's original features and quirkyness. We loved everything about it, especially reading about its history. Cosy and clean. Ashford in the Water is a lovely village and how lucky to have a hotel, pub and a tea room - food fantastic in all three. Several walks from the village. We had a wonderful week staying in Thorpe Cottage. We cooked most days and felt that it was well-equipped for this. It was cosy and comfortable and it's in a perfect location in Ashford. We loved going to the Ashford Arms, both for food and just an evening drink. The cafe in the village is lovely too. Thanks for a great stay. We hope to return soonRead more! Hide

Our 2nd visit to Thorpe Cottage, which was back in 2008. The cottage is well equipped, well presented and very cosy. Great walks from the doorstep, 2 fabulous pubs in the village and more great pubs in surrounding villages. We enjoyed our visit in 2008 and it didn't disappoint this time. An ideal cottage for 2 people.

This is a really pleasant cottage for a couple. Just watch out for the doorway heights downstairs. I'm 5' 10'' and needed to duck down, but it was all part of the character of the place.
