Set your sights on the Hope Valley for an unforgettable staycation surrounded by heather-strewn moorland, luscious green hills and pretty villages. Elevated above the countryside with views of rolling fields bordered by dry-stone walls, this couple’s retreat is packed with character and offers a comfortable base for exploring the great outdoors. Navigate a myriad of trails from your doorstep, refuelling with delicious pub lunches and local ales before returning to unwind by the wood burner.

Rustic and charming with a traditional stone exterior, wooden beams and a stone fireplace that hosts a wood burner, your accommodation is open-plan and relaxing. There’s a kitchen with all the gadgets you need to rustle up a feast, which you can enjoy at the table or curled up on the sofa. The bedroom is carefully styled for a restful night’s sleep upstairs, and there’s an en-suite bathroom for soaking tired limbs. You’ll be able to take in the views from your pretty patio area, and there’s off-road parking for one car.

Whether you are keen to unravel the fascinating history of the area or can’t wait to tackle a bracing walk across the rugged landscape, this peaceful corner of the Peak District is perfect for your explorations. The tranquil hamlet of Highcliffe is rural and wild, located on the cusp of Eyam, a plague village with a tragic past and more than a few throwbacks to Saxon times. Further afield, Castleton (10.5 miles) is the starting point for the iconic Pennine Way, a must for walkers of all abilities. The Hope Valley is arguably one of the most scenic landscapes in the entire national park, so why not grab a map and pack up a picnic and begin your adventures.

This is a quiet, peaceful spot and a well appointed, comfortable, cosy cottage. The single parking space might be a challenge but I had no problem parking my large suv, but I was always coming and going in daylight. The lack of a secure garden was a slight issue as the lane is very dark at night and a last 'wee' for my dog was slightly disconcertinRead moreg particularly as I was alone. Very helpful friendly owners when we spoke on the phone with lots of local info about routes, local events etc. I hope to return. Thankyou. Hide

If you want a relaxing and quiet holiday this is the best place we've been. The bed is the most comfortable ever. Nice easy walks. Barrel in about 30 minutes walk away for good food, however no dogs. We had a great stay at The Trap House so called as this was where the traps for the horses were kept, a lovely cosy cottage that felt like a home from home, however it is getting ready for some tlc especially the bathroom, but this is only to be expected from a well used place. Quant little cottage up the hill from Eyam. Perfect for a couple with a dog. Has everything you need for a quiet stay. Steep but pleasant walk to Eyam, or along your the Barrel Inn. Gorgeous location, up the road 50 yards for spectacular views. Neighbours are really friendly too.
