This charming end-of-terrace cottage makes a great bolthole for a family or group of friends wanting to explore the Peak District with multiple dogs in tow. The pretty, but vibrant, village of Whatstandwell gives you a peaceful base, with this rural retreat offering comfort and practicality, but finished to a really high spec.
Step into this welcoming cottage’s hall, before getting to the generous living areas, all offering lovely green views. With natural tones and neutral decor, this home from home feels really sophisticated with its unfussy finish. The kitchen is well equipped; a modern take on a country-style kitchen, complete with beamed ceiling and terracotta tiled floor giving a rustic feel. Both the comfortable lounge and dining room boast wood burners for cooler months and are spacious rooms to spend time either with your nearest and dearest or in quite contemplation alone. All three elegant bedrooms are upstairs, as is the family bathroom. Outside, the mature gardens offer a space to sit, as well as lawned areas and mature planting. There’s private parking for two cars on the lane, with access up a slightly sloping shingle path, along with a few shallow steps.
Located in the Derwent Valley, dog walks along the nearby Cromford Canal will provide lots of fun; you can join the towpath direct from the garden. But, there’s walking paths and trails all around – so just take your pick from options including the 17.5-mile High Peak Trail, with stunning views of Matlock Bath and Cromford, or the Monsal Trail. Head to Bakewell (9 miles) to tick buying a Bakewell Pudding off the holiday list, and just to have a mooch about this pretty town. Consider going early, however, to beat the worst of the crowds. Perennial favourite Chatsworth House is 10 miles away.
