Matlock was once the go-to place for hydro and spa treatments, but today it is a thriving holiday destination for those who want to reconnect with the great outdoors yet experience a slice of countryside life too. Sample delicious local fare at one of the tearooms, step back in time riding a vintage steam train and scale the Heights of Abraham by cable car for jaw-dropping views.

Bursting with gothic character and retaining many features from its former life as a church, this marvellous apartment is a quirky retreat for two. Venture along the passageway and through the archway, slipping through the cathedral door and down the steps to reach your abode. Your open-plan living area greets you on arrival with a sofa, ample equipment for rustling up dinners and a handy table and chairs for meals a deux. There’s a comfortable bedroom with a king-size bed, and completing the property is a shower room. Outside, you’ll find a table and chairs ideal for morning coffee in the shared alleyway.

Wander down the steep hill into the bustling centre of Matlock, picking up a few treats from the market and browsing the array of shops and eateries. Time your visit with the Matlock Bath Illuminations and experience a visual feast of fireworks and fun, taking in the sights of the parade of boats along the River Derwent. By day, the river offers beautiful waterside walks with several picnic spots on the way. Further afield, Bakewell (8.5 miles away) is a must-see with its quintessential cobbled streets and pretty tearooms serving generous slabs of the famous pudding.

The accommodation was small but done to a good standard. The location was very good, despite being on a steep incline, as the views are fantastic. The town centre was a five minute walk, and it was a friendly area in which to walk and shop.

Very good value, very clean and comfortable. In a good area of town close to a bar, pizza shop and several delis.Bed comfortable and shower/bathroom facilities excellent. We did not bring a car but public transport facilities in the area are absolutely excellent. You do need to be aware that the flat is at the top of an extremely steep hill from thRead moree town centre. 600 metres of lung busting ascent. Great Place to stay in a lovely location. Place was clean and Tidy - All cutlery and equipment was clean. The kitchen had everything you would need for a stay there. Really lovely place, and the Pizza place across the road is great !

Nice place ,high spec finish, parking situation not great, actual location is right at top of a very steep hill ,you need to be a mountain climber to walk back from town.its sub terainian and only has roof windows gives a slight claustrophobic feeling couldn't live in it full time. I had a fabulous stay - what a super apartment and a great location just a short walk downhill into town. The apartment has everything you need and was nice and warm in spite of the snow and ice outside which I really appreciated. I didn't have any problems parking during my time there. I would highly recommend it.

Got plenty of exercise up and down the hill to the town of matlock. A lovely area and the accommodation was clean and bonus of towels and bedding included also wifi

Really enjoyed our stay. Fantastic location and aparmrent. Has all the amenities for a comfortable stay! Easy to follow instructions when checking in and parking a couple of minutes walk away. The pizza place across the road is a must visit in Matlock!
