This wonderful cottage dates back over 400 years and retains plenty of original charm for four guests to enjoy. A lovely holiday home for couples and small families, the cottage is set in the idyllic village of Ashford in the Water and is perfect for exploring the heart of the Peak District National Park. With the River Wye running through the village, the cottage makes a tranquil retreat for walkers exploring the area’s beautiful peaks, lush woodlands and picturesque villages.

Entering this delightful cottage, the inviting lounge is an ideal space for relaxing in at the end of a great stay and features a wood burner set in a gritstone fireplace and plenty of comfortable seating so you can snuggle up and enjoy a film in the evening. The cottage kitchen/diner provides a sociable space perfect for cooking and sharing your favourite family meals. Upstairs, there are two light, relaxing bedrooms decorated in gentle pastels, each with views over the hills and fields: a charming twin room, and a pretty king-size room with a window seat and characterful storage space. This floor also features a stylish family bathroom. A small, covered courtyard area provides a pleasant space for a morning coffee as you plan the day’s activities.

With wonderful walks right from the doorstep, the pretty village of Ashford in the Water is a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District. Walkers can follow the Monsal Trail and the Tissington Trail, or head into the bustling market town of Bakewell (1.5 miles) which has plenty of great places to eat and drink. Local attractions and landmarks include Chatsworth House (5.5 miles), Haddon Hall (4.5 miles) and the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath (11.5 miles).

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Best holiday cottage we have stayed in. And at our age, there have been a lot! John and Sarah have really gone the extra mile and provided everything guests need for a perfect stay. Really enjoyed our few days away, the cottage was so cosy, relaxing and in a beautiful village. Hollie our puppy had a blast the whole area is dog friendly. Beautiful cottage in a lovely village. Great location to be based to explore the stunning area. The cottage feels cosy yet spacious. It's beautifully presented & very clean. Lovely cottage, feels very fresh and clean. Well appointed with everything you need to relax, cook or enjoy a quiet evening in. Location is excellent for walking in Bakewell and Monsal Head area but well situated for exploring wider peak district and beyond.

We loved our few days at Catherine Cottage. Beautifully equipped and clean cottage in the middle of this perfectly located village. Access to the cottage was really simple. We had a wonderful stay at Catherine cottage in August '20. It was the right mixture of traditional and modern, with up to date facilities combined with traditional features. The location was perfect, with a number of walks right from your front door or just a short drive away. Immediate facilities were a bit limited, but Bakewell was just a 5 min Read moredrive (or pleasant 30 min walk) away, and a drink and meal at the Bulls Head next door is a must! Hide

Catherine Cottage is a beautifully restored and decorated property with all the home comforts you could need. It is very well located in the centre of the village just next door to the great village pub. We had a lovely stay and will probably return again!

Catherine cottage has to be one of the best if not the best cottage we have ever stayed in. Decorated and furnished to the highest standards. We were so impressed we have already booked to go back later this year. Ashford has dog friendly tea rooms,a dog friendly pub. Also a delli which we used every day. Centrally located, easy access to all walking/cycling routes, good local facilities. Good, hearty meals at The Bull at very reasonable prices, corner shop stocks everything you might need for a holiday and "special" meals can be had at the Riverside Hotel. What a fabulous cottage! Attention to detail is second to none. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything was perfect, so homely. We particularly enjoyed the novelty of making an open fire every day. The village is beautiful and well placed for everything we wanted to do.
