  • Refurbished in 2016, with interesting features, spacious accommodation and beautiful uninterrupted views

Wake up to uninterrupted views of the rolling Peak District hills as well as Royd Moor and Scout Dyke reservoirs at this cottage, which makes for a perfect romantic retreat. Spend your days exploring the area’s rich history and culture at museums and galleries, take a culinary tour of the towns and villages, or lace up your walking boots and explore the countryside that the National Park is so famous for. British Horse Society approved livery is also available on-site, available by arrangement with the owner.

With a crackling, warming wood burner and a dominating exposed beam, the open-plan lounge/diner is a welcoming spot full of country charm. In fact, there’s no better place to rest your aching feet after a busy day of adventure, or plan what tomorrow will bring as you enjoy a home-cooked meal at the dining table. Spend summer evenings on the lawn outside, where you can relax on the garden furniture, glass of wine in hand, as you take in the lush green countryside that surrounds you.

Here you are in the foothills of the Pennines, with the Trans Pennine Trail and Boundary Walk both passing through the village; there’s a good reason this is a haven for keen walkers and cyclists. Head 5 miles to Silkstone and walk the recreational and historical Silkstone Waggonway, which stretches 3.5 miles to Cawthorne, or visit nearby Holmfirth (9 miles), home to TV’s ‘Last of the Summer Wine’. Wortley Top Forge - a historic water-powered heavy iron forge dating back to the 17th century, which lies 6.5 miles from the cottage - and Wentworth Castle (8 miles) are also well worth a visit for a dose of local culture.
