Take time to unwind with loved ones at this stunning cottage in the heart of a popular Peak District village. The charm oozes through every inch of the cottage and will provide a memorable escape.

Sitting in the heart of the pretty village of Hartington, this picture-postcard stone cottage is the perfect accommodation option for a romantic break for two or an adventure-filled getaway with family or friends. Located next to the owner’s home - yet offering plenty of privacy - you’ll find some of the best hikes in Derbyshire right on your doorstep. Spend your days climbing or caving and your evenings enjoying al fresco dinners in the cottage’s exceptionally pretty garden.

Sleeping four people across two bedrooms and welcoming five dogs, this cottage is overflowing with rural charm. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast around the farmhouse table in the cottage’s country-style kitchen. After a day scaling Mam Tor or cycling at Jacob’s Ladder, climb up the steps to your rural retreat, head out to the garden, light up the charcoal BBQ and dine alfresco. If you have the dogs with you, they can run free in the enclosed garden. After dinner, relax in front of your favourite TV shows by the wood burner in the living room. With its exposed beams, feature fireplace and garden views, spending time in this room is an absolute pleasure. And when the day is over, head upstairs and you’ll find two wonderfully quaint bedrooms.

Take an atmospheric stroll at Arbor Low (5 miles), the region’s most important prehistoric site. There you’ll find a Neolithic henge monument that dates back to between 2,500 BC to 1,500 BC. Or head to Carsington Water (12 miles) and explore the lake from a stand-up paddleboard or Canadian canoe. If you’re thirsty after that, quench your thirst in the taproom at the Thornbridge Brewery (11 miles). While you’re there, grab something for the BBQ, because the brewery sells a range of artisanal meat from the Thornbridge Hall Estate.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Lovely, clean, cosy, well-appointed cottage. We felt very welcome and well cared for; some delicious homemade cake and jam left for us and the owners (who live next door) are very helpful and friendly (but not too friendly!). This was a second stay, which says something about how much we enjoyed it.

Excellent holiday had by all at this lovely cottage (our second visit and definitely not our last). Very well equipped and Janet & Andy very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area and events. Sadly, we missed the well dressing parade & blessing, but maybe next time! This was an outstanding cottage. Janet had thought of everything and for a small cottage it was superbly equipped. The cottage is easy walking distance to pubs, cafes and shops. Hartingdon is a pretty village arranged around a duck pond, hotel, pub, shops, even an award winning cheese shop await. We loved it!

The cottage living room is too dark and the two armchairs are very uncomfortable. Lighting is not sufficient enough either (dim bulbs) to change this. The kitchen chairs are also uncomfortable to sit on for the duration of a meal. Also if two people wanted a bath this was impossible as the tank only provided (just) enough water for one. This is verRead morey poor; I have never come across this in any other rental. The only plus was the garden, but this also was ruined by building work across the road Hide
