A Grade II listed property that dates back over 300 years, Marmalade Cottage is nestled in the heart of the pretty Peak District Village of Winster, and contains original features throughout.

Enjoying a delightful village position, Marmalade Cottage has wonderful local amenities close by. After a day spent traversing the undulating hills and steep peaks of the surrounding landscape, guests can head to the local pub, The Bowling Green Inn for a spot of lunch and to rest those aching legs. The nearby town of Matlock offers even more, including a railway station which makes Marmalade Cottage easily accessible by both road and rail.

Guests enter the cottage into a good size reception dining area, stepping across the part stone flagged, part wooden floors it is immeditaley clear that this property is brimming with character. A door to the rear of the hallway leads through to the kitchen which is equipped with all the necessities. Another door off the hall takes guests through to the lounge which has exposed beams, stone fagged floors and a woodburner set into a gritstone fireplace, which gives the room a wonderful ambience. A utility-storage room is located just off the lounge and provides space for those muddy boots and wet coats. Arched leaded windows throughout the property are a nod to the history that is embedded within the stone walls.

The original staircase leads up to the first floor and the two bedrooms. The first bedroom contains two single beds and has an original stone fireplace which makes a central feature of the room. The second spacious bedroom has a king size bed and beautiful views towards the front of the property. There is a main bathroom with a bath, shower-over, toilet and hand basin. At the end of the upstairs corridor there is a third study room complete with a desk and bookcases. Double doors open out onto the pretty lawn garden.

Elsewhere there is a delightful cottage garden that can be accessed via a set of external stairs from the ground floor. There is also a patio seating area located just off the kitchen.

This cottage is beautifully cosy, with stone walls and beams, giving a feeling of permanence. The kitchen is cleverly planned to include a dishwasher, and the "utility" room is a great resource for both laundry and for drying wet outdoor clothing. The village itself is fascinating, beautiful, and evidently lived in, not just visited. The village shRead moreop is excellent, with PO and the staff are friendly and helpful. Hide

Our first time at Marmalade Cottage and we quickly felt at home. The cottage has been lovingly restored and updated, retaining its old charm and features, yet full of modern amenities. The staircase is very steep. Children U5 could have difficulty. Parking was fine in front of the house and never had any issues with larger vehicles passing. Fabulous cottage in a lovely quiet village with great walking routes from the front door. Loads to do within a 15 minute drive. The cottage is really well equipped with very comfy beds. We stayed with our children who are almost 3 and almost 5 and it worked perfectly for us. A practical note: steep wooden stairs inside with nowhere to put a stair gRead moreate and steep steps in garden so not suitable for under 3s or children who are too young to understand that they need to be helped on the stairs. Lovely cottage full of character. Very clean and well equipped. Comfy beds. Pleasant garden with table and chairs. Steep stairs to first floor and steep steps to garden mean some people may have had difficulty. Village shop was very useful.
