This striking lodge sits within the grounds of a country mansion, on the western fringe of the Peak District National Park. Sleeping four guests, the cottage is perfect for couples and small families and is a great base for keen walkers, with the long-distance Pennine Way passing just 2 miles away. You’ll also have easy access to the rugged landscape surrounding Bleaklow (5 miles) and the peak of Kinder Scout (15 miles), the highest point in the national park.
The quirky lodge has a home-away-from-home vibe, with a collection of traditional furniture and cosy soft furnishings. At the heart of the home is an inviting lounge, with a warming wood burner, an array of comfortable seating, and fabulous views through the original windows to the garden and surrounding countryside. The spacious kitchen/diner is equipped with everything needed for a self-catering break and has a table to seat all four guests. There’s also a handy pantry area for extra storage. A characterful formal dining room provides the perfect place for dinner parties and family celebrations, and again enjoys views across the garden. The two elegant bedrooms and family bathroom are upstairs. Outside, sip a sundowner on the bistro set next to the cottage, followed by a stroll around the extensive shared grounds.
The thriving market town of Glossop is 2 miles away, and has a great range of independent shops, restaurants, and pubs. It also hosts regular indoor and outdoor markets, and has an attractive old town with pretty stone cottages and a medieval market cross. Heading deep into the Peak District National Park, you’ll find the charming village of Castleton (15 miles). The village is a popular starting point for many well-known walking routes, and also boasts a series of fascinating show caves that are well worth exploring.
