Situated next to the owner’s home, offering complete privacy is this charming pet-friendly cottage which boasts lots of original character alongside comfortable furnishings for a home from home escape.

This beautiful cottage is located just outside the chocolate-box village of Ashford-in-the-Water and sleeps four guests. You’ll have a fabulous choice of walks directly from your front door, through the spectacular Derbyshire countryside. The village has great links with the traffic-free Monsal Trail, and is also just 3 miles from Bakewell, the Peak District’s epicentre for outdoor activities. For a slice of history, head to 900-year-old Haddon Hall (5.5 miles).

The characterful cottage has the perfect mix of rustic charm and contemporary style, creating a cosy, home-away-from-home vibe. After a long walk, curl up on the sofa in the lounge in front of the wood burner with a cuppa and a good book. The light and bright dining area has a large table and elegant chairs, so you can all congregate to enjoy delicious meals together and plan your next adventure. The property has a large, enclosed garden, with a BBQ and beautiful, mature borders. Here, you can dine alfresco at the picnic bench and soak up the tranquil surroundings or relax with a glass of wine in the sunshine before retiring upstairs to one of the comfortable bedrooms.

Take the time to explore Ashford-in-the-Water, where you’ll find quaint limestone cottages and immaculate floral displays. The village has one of the most photographed bridges in the country – Sheepwash Bridge – so be sure to pay it a visit for a game of Pooh sticks or a peaceful picnic on the nearby grassy riverbank. There are endless walking trails branching out from the village, including to the popular beauty spot of Monsal Head (2 miles), where you can marvel at the impressive views down the valley, towards the iconic viaduct. Spend a fascinating afternoon at Haddon Hall, exploring the untouched interiors dating back to the 14th century and the spectacular Elizabethan gardens.

Lovely welcome by the owners and ideal location for walks as well as being close to village with excellent pubs. Bakewell and Buxton both within very easy reach. Plenty to do and visit within surrounding areas for all ages and for dogs!

The cottage was so cosy for a winter break. After time out cycling in the beautiful countryside, what better than a lovely hot shower and then a cuppa by the wood burning stove. Perfect!

Owners very friendly and accommodating but it is obvious that priority is in running the farm resulting in lack of attention to detail within the cottage.

Cottage is in a good location. Bed lining was spotless, but the kitchen wasnt clean. You have to ask the owners every time you want the heating adjusted. All dog owners should know that dogs are not allowed to be left in the cottage unattended unless crated. This information wasnt made clear until after I had booked and paid for the cottage. The coRead morettage is sold on the fact that its on a farm, but we never got to see any animals and theres no view and a road close to the cottage. Hide

This cottage was adequate for our short stay but was rather underwhelming. For what we paid, we have stayed in far more warming and more welcoming properties through the years. It seems to have very good reviews but when I leave comments, I think it's important to be honest and although it suited our needs for 4 nights, I wouldn't be returning. A lovely cosy cottage ideally situated for walks and attractions such as Chatsworth and the Heights of Abraham. The garden was large enough for our dog to potter about in and we could walk him in the adjacent fields. We really enjoyed our stay.
