Set in the heart of a thriving Derbyshire market town, this artfully designed and furnished retreat provides memorable holiday accommodation for two guests. Offering a fantastic bolthole for a couple exploring the southern reaches of the Peak District National Park, this lovely ground-floor property features locally-created murals, unique features, along with a charming courtyard garden. Dating back to 1766, and with a fantastic independent cinema next door, this fabulous lodge is a perfect base for exploring this spellbinding region.

Entered via a stone alleyway, this atmospheric property features a characterful lounge, richly decorated and featuring a wood burner and some gorgeous furniture – an ideal space to relax in at the end of a fantastic day. The farmhouse-style kitchen/diner is perfect for preparing and sharing a meal for two. The sumptuous king-size bedroom boasts a mural, drop lighting and a range of retro-style furniture lending the room a glamorous boudoir feel. There’s also an elegant bathroom. Outside, the courtyard garden offers a delightfully secluded space with outdoor furniture, a fire pit and fairy lights, making it an ideal spot for al fresco dining.

The market town of Wirksworth is home to an array of pubs, restaurants, cafes, galleries and shops, with attractions including Mount Cook Adventure Centre, the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and the National Stone Centre. Keen walkers and cyclists can follow the High Peak Trail, or visit Black Rocks (1 mile), Harborough Rocks (4 miles) and Carsington Water, also known as a popular water sports destination (4 miles). The thriving town of Matlock is nearby (4.5 miles), with other local attractions including Gulliver’s Kingdom, Heights of Abraham, Cromford Mills and Crich Tramway Village (all within 5 miles).

Absolutely the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed; spending a fair amount of time thinking how lucky we were to find it. Beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable, and just a lovely place to be based to explore the Peak District. This is a fabulous place to stay, just a short walk from the centre of Wirksworth. Beautifully decorated and furnished with plenty of style. You will want for nothing, the owners have thought of everything, one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in. Perfectly situated for a visit to the peaks. Our longest trip was 12 miles and we went to MatlRead moreock Bath, Bakewell, the Tramway museum, Dovedale and Ilam. We highly recommend a stay at this property. Hide

Absolutely fabulous place to stay - the decoration and atmosphere in the cottage/flat is gorgeous and we couldn't have been made to feel any more welcome and comfortable. One of the first places I've ever stayed which, when I got home, made me feel my home wasn't as nice! Wirksworth itself is quirky and trendy, and makes a great base for exploring Read morethe peaks, with walks straight from the front door and access to lots of heritage and interesting places to see! Slaley Lodge is absolutely a credit to its owners, exquisitely, quirky designed with comfort & ambiance to all rooms. A fabulous comfy bed & great shower & bath & pretty courtyard. Beautiful accommodation in a great location. The place is furnished and decorated to a very high standard and had everything you could have needed and more. Freshly baked bread and a bottle of fizz to welcome us. A beautiful space to relax in, decorated and equipped to the highest standards. We felt very welcome and really appreciated the detailed thought that had gone into our comfort, from the coffee in the kitchen, the perfumes of the hand washes to the fast internet, Netflix and Spotify access provided. The history in the building, Wirksworths gorgeous Read morestreets and houses, and the astonishing beauty of Derbyshire drew us here but the luxury offered during our stay will certainly take us back again. We were not disappointed , everything you would expect from a luxury boutique hotel , but in the comfort of a home . Every detail had been thought of from the powerful shower , to the luxurious stand-alone bath in the bathroom . The most comfortable bed , with crisp white sheets and duvet .
