Its twin, spa-town, Buxton, is a short drive and offers a lively arts scene, including the opera house. Ashford-in-the-Water is nearby, offering country pubs and a village shop. Elsewhere are the historical villages of Eyam with its fascinating history and Foolow with its village green and duck pond, are just a short drive away.
