Occupying the east wing of an impressive 17th-century farmhouse, this charming retreat offers welcoming holiday accommodation for up to six guests. Perfect for families and friends exploring the northern reaches of the Peak District, this lovely hideaway is ideal for discovering the beautiful countryside of Cheshire and Derbyshire. Within easy reach of Manchester, the property has been thoughtfully restored and features a pretty cottage garden, a cheerful wood burner, exposed beams, a stone fireplace and fantastic rural views.

Entering this spacious property, the ground floor features an airy open-plan kitchen/diner which makes a fabulous space to prepare and share your favourite family meals. The cosy lounge is on the first floor, complete with a welcoming wood burner, comfortable seating and a Smart TV – perfect for snuggling up and watching a movie at the end of a great day. The family bathroom and three relaxing bedrooms are on the second floor: an en-suite king-size room, a twin, and a bunk bedroom, all featuring exposed wooden ceiling beams. Outside, the enclosed garden offers far-reaching countryside views which you can enjoy as you sit back on the outdoor furniture to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining.

Nearby Tarden Farm Riding Stables caters for experienced riders and has plenty of access to a network of footpaths and bridleways throughout this idyllic area. The picturesque village of Mellor has three pubs and a golf club, and is perfectly placed for discovering a range of woods and moorlands. Local attractions include Lyme Park, Etherow Country Park, Bramall Hall, Brookside Miniature Railway and Mermaid’s Pool (all within 10 miles). Also within easy reach is the thriving town of Stockport (7 miles) and the lively city of Manchester (13 miles).

Top Notch Holiday house. Unique position really in this neck of the woods. 11 miles to the city p. 2 miles to Marple railway station with free parking. The cottage itself is fantastic over the 3 floors. Well equipped and extremely stylishly fitted and decorated. Fantastic double oven. Largest collection of drinking glasses ever seen. Great also to Read moresee the horses round and about! Hosts lovely people who are great for local info. Will come back for sure. Hide

Tarden House is a lovely holiday home. Maurice and Greg have created a warm, comfortable venue equipped to the highest standard. They are very welcoming and friendly hosts. The area has much to offer, we visited RHS Bridgewater, Lyme Park, Manchester (by train from Marple Bridge) and Buxton. We also managed a couple of walks. Our family of three spent half-term at this cottage. We enjoyed our stay, and in particular the cottage was well presented, with the bathrooms very clean. The cottage has been recently renovated and is well maintained. The kitchen was well-equipped, which made cooking and spending time in the cottage very pleasant. The only thing to be aware of is Read morethat the kitchen, lounge and bedrooms are all on different levels, so would not recommend for the elderly or very young children. Nice owners. Hide

Excellent property in a beautiful location. Friendly, helpful but not intrusive owners. We used the house as a base for our daughters wedding and it proved to be a perfect choice. One of the best properties weve stayed in and all our guests loved it too

We had a great stay at Tarden Farm. The location is quiet and in beautiful countryside. Easy to get in to Manchester by train. Many lovely local walks. Cottage is tastefully decorated and the beds comfortable. Would visit again.

Beautiful property that blended plenty of character with every modern convenience. The location was quiet and within easy reach of the village for some meals out. We explored local towns and villages, enjoyed the cinema in Marple and took a train into Manchester one day. A lot of thought has gone into the house with comfortable bedrooms, modern batRead morehrooms and a well-equipped kitchen. There was ample space for our family of 2 parents and 2 teenagers. The cottage is set at the end of narrow road overlooking large open fields and hills. It's a delightful setting and secluded enough for privacy, and yet easily accessible from the village by car or horse :) The stone building has been exceptionally renovated last year to a very high standard. Lovely place with very attentive but not intrusive hosts. Very beautiful area with lots of walks and easy access to Manchester by train if you want (have to drive to station car park). Thoroughly enjoyed the time there and no hesitation to recommend (but you need to be able to do stairs)

Tarden House is simply stunning in an even more stunning location. The house was a perfect size for our family of 5 (2 adults & 3 kids) comfortable and extremely clean. The owners were so approachable and friendly. The horses surrounding the house were a huge hit with our 3 kids. Excellent pub, Devonshire Arms, with great food just at end of the laRead morene. Two couples with a 1yo and 3 & 6yo between them seeking to stay in a bit of history in the lovely peaceful countryside. We loved Tarden House for this. Visiting the houses in the stables was a bonus. The house was okay for us, but not if the 1yo had been walking. We brought our own cot and high chair. Host was very friendly. Beds comfortable. Wifi Read moredecent. Loved our holiday. House is beautifully decorated and very comfortable and clean. Greg friendly and helpful. Lots to do in the area - we need to come back! Horse mad daughter was in seventh heaven. Garden was lovely to sit in during hot spell. Devonshire Arms do very tasty meals.Chatsworth House worth a visit. Monsai trail relatively easy to cycle Read morewith interesting features en route. Amazing property, really well equipped in fantastic location. Easy walk to the pub(s) and close to some amazing walks in the Peak District plus only 25 minutes on the train into Manchester. Great to also meet Greg & Maurice who were really helpful and welcoming.
