  • Private riverside garden with lots of wildlife and ducks and ducklings to enjoy
Property code: PK547

This old blacksmiths cottage offers space and tranquillity within a stone’s throw of the popular Derbyshire village of Ashford in the Water. Includes a peaceful riverside location with meadow views.

From the property, guests can enjoy a short stroll to the old marble quarrying village of Ashford in the Water. Here, you’ll find plenty of places to shop, eat and relax beside the babbling River Wye. Nestled in the heart of the national park, walkers will enjoy exploring the contrasting scenery of the higher and wilder Dark Peak in the north and the gently rolling limestone dales of White Peak in the south.

Inside, an open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting area welcomes you into the cottage. With slate floors and walls of a warm light shade throughout, this is an inviting space to enjoy your evening meal, a game at the coffee table or a peaceful read on the sofa. The coal effect stove and exposed beam add character to this large room, while the kitchen is light and airy with everything you should need throughout your stay. Also on this floor is a cloakroom and downstairs toilet. Upstairs, the bedroom has been painted in the same inviting light airy shade, and a vaulted ceiling, pretty stained glass windows and an exposed beam add more character. Adjoining the bedroom is the shower room with shower cubicle, hand basin and toilet. Parking is by the cottage.

Outside, the private garden is bordered by the free-flowing River Wye. With an abundance of wildlife and views across the weir to the meadow beyond, this is a soothing setting for your afternoon cup of tea or evening drink.

This is a lovely detached cottage with a small but private garden adjoining the river. although small it was well equipped and close to the very pretty village centre. A well stocked village shop and a good pub The Bulls ahead is 100 yards away. Suitable for 2 only it is a perfect couples get away.

A delightful little cottage with a lovely riverside garden area. Our host was helpful and friendly. The village was great, with a good pub at the end of the lane serving great food at good prices. The Peak District was breath-taking and this was a great place to be based. We hope to come again.

This was our third year at this property so obviously we like it. Its a comfy retreat in an excellent location. The only small gripes for us (these did not spoil our stay, they are only minor mentions) were there was no bulb in the fridge and the extractor fan in the shower room did not work. Otherwise looking forward to next years stay.

Very nice cottage in a quiet village with two good pubs. Location was ideal for touring the 'Peaks' area. Small but very peaceful little garden by the crystal clear River Wye. We would definitely stay there again.

Ideal cottage for a walking couple! So many walks available straight from the door or only minutes away by car. Two pubs to choose from with great food and a well stocked village shop. All only a few steps away from The Smithy. Buy your duck food from the shop and enjoy feeding the wild fowl from the end of the pretty garden. Delightful!
