  • Stunning rural location with rolling fields bordered by dry stone walls
  • Small local brewery within walking distance
  • Beautiful rural stone cottage with high ceilings and beams
Property code: PK574

Situated in the heart of the Peak District National Park, this beautiful property is perfect for a couple who want to explore the stunning Derbyshire countryside. Immerse yourselves in the rural tranquillity of this converted farm building (as the name suggests), but rest assured that the village shop, tearoom and pub of Ashford-in-the Water are only a few hundred metres away. The historic village, famous for its medieval Sheepwash Bridge, occupies a fantastic central location, allowing guests to explore the whole national park, including the dramatic Dark Peak in the north and the limestone plateaus of the White Peak to the south.

In the grounds of the farmhouse, a low dry-stone wall surrounds the traditional stone property. On entering, you’ll find yourselves in the bright and airy open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner where vaulted ceilings add to the sense of space. The lounge has comfy seating for relaxing, there is ample room at the table for eating or poring over a map whilst you plan the next adventure, and the kitchen is well equipped. On the same floor, there is a double bedroom with gorgeous countryside views and a shower room. Outside, a private patio offers a lovely spot for al fresco dining against a backdrop of unbridled countryside.

Whatever your sport, there will be something for you nearby, with walking and cycling routes on your doorstep, canoeing on the River Wye and climbing and caving in nearby Castleton (12.5 miles). The biggest town in the national park, Bakewell, which is also famous for its pudding, is only 1.5 miles away and is the start of the Monsal Trail, an 8.5-mile traffic-free walking route. If you’re in need of a ‘rest day’, enjoy a less strenuous stroll at Chatsworth House (5 miles) or wander around spa town Buxton (11 miles).

  • 1 double bedroom
  • 1 bathroom with shower
  • Electric hob and oven, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment and separate small freezer and washer/dryer
  • Off road parking
  • Garden furniture
  • TV/DVD and Radio
  • Wi-Fi included
  • Travel cot and high chair available

The cottage was in a lovely position to access many walks from the door. I loved the enclosed area for my dog and it was private, even though part of a group of cottages, with plenty of parking. Would definitely book again.

A great property in a great location. Although from the outside the property initially appears on the small side it is infact deceptively spacious inside, more than big enough for 2 people and a pet or 2. Walking distance of both Ashford in the Water and Bakewell and only a short drive from many other good locations.
