A cosy yet spacious cottage packed with period character from exposed stone and beams. Set all on one level and with access to a pretty garden, this propety is very accessible for guests.

Enjoy a cosy retreat at this characterful cottage, full of rustic charm. The property is located on the edge of the quaint village of Birchover and is within easy reach of many of the Peak District’s iconic attractions. A network of footpaths branches out from the village and into the surrounding countryside, where you can discover the magical Rowtor Rocks or Nine Ladies Stone Circle (0.5 miles). For a day of opulence and grandeur, take the short trip to Chatsworth House (7 miles).

A warm welcome awaits you inside this pretty stone cottage, which is conveniently set on one level. At the heart of the home is the spacious lounge/diner, which has a glorious stone wall, high ceilings with exposed beams and a roaring fireplace. This is the ideal spot to snuggle up with a cup of tea after a long walk. In the evenings, come together around the large dining table for a tasty meal and admire the far-reaching rural views, before getting a great night’s sleep in one of the two double bedrooms. Two additional bunk beds are also available. Outside, there’s a large lawn which children and four-legged guests will love, as well as furniture for al fresco dining. You’ll also be able to challenge your fellow guests to a game of tennis on the shared courts.

Nestled in the hillside above Birchover, you’ll find Rowtor Rocks. These fascinating carvings were once thought to be of Druid origin, although it has since been discovered that they were created in the 18th century to bring tourism to the area. However, they’re still a fascinating part of the village’s history and are well worth exploring. There are some lovely walking trails that incorporate the rocks. For a genuine Bronze Age experience, head to Stanton Moor and marvel at the Nine Ladies Stone Circle. Take time to walk around the beautiful expanse of moorland, with its mystical woodlands and serene atmosphere.

The Byre cottage was exactly what we needed for our winter break. In a great location, with fabulous views and so peaceful. Quiet evenings in front of a roaring fire we were able to get some much needed down time. The facilities provided were excellent. Great location lovely garden (though not enclosed) tennis court was a great addition. Nice property but a little tired and in need of a few upgrades ie tv, and a proper shower over the bath. Owners friendly and welcomed us. A pint of milk in fridge for arrival would be helpful.

This cottage is in a lovely location - the walking from Birchover and Winster is great, right from the doorstep. The cottage was fine, but we felt it was overpriced for what you got. It was nice to have a garden and use of the shared tennis court, but inside the cottage things were tired and could really do with a refresh given the cost of rental. Our second stay at the Byre as we like the area and the location of the cottage near good walks. Beds are very comfortable, towels supplied were big and soft.
