Perfect for a pet-loving couple, this romantic retreat boasts a first-floor suite complete with four-poster bed and seating area. On the outskirts of Castleton, it’s a fabulous bolthole amid the beauty of the Peak District.
One of a small collection of holiday properties overlooking the Hope Valley, this fabulous barn conversion welcomes guests into a sitting room where thick stone walls and striking ceiling beams add traditional charm. Adjacent, the kitchen has all the essentials for effortless self-catering, and comes with a circular table where you can chat while dinner cooks. Afterwards, snuggle up on a sofa and catch up with your favourite movies on the Smart TV. Alternatively, head upstairs where there’s a second seating area with its own TV and, close-by, an antique four-poster bed. For ultimate flexibility, drapes separate these two upper areas, and one of the sofas converts into a bed to accommodate a third guest. The contemporary bathroom is on the ground floor. Outside, the pretty garden area comes with a BBQ for al fresco feasts with a side-serving of countryside views; horses are stabled and grazed nearby. If you’d like to share your holiday with family or friends, other properties are available which sleep a further 14 guests; please ask for details.
Stroll into Castleton (0.5 miles) for a fine choice of cafes, shops and pubs. Overlooked by Peveril Castle, the village is famous as the home of Derbyshire Blue John stone, and is a great place to pick up the trails to Winnats Pass (1.5 miles) and Mam Tor (2 miles). Head to Padley Gorge (8 miles) to hike among streams, boulders and waterfalls, or climb aboard a boat at Speedwell Cavern (0.5 miles) to cruise through historic mining tunnels. For contrast, the elegant architecture, Pavilion Gardens and Opera House at spa town Buxton are 10 miles away.
