Holiday cottages to rent in Matlock
Matlock in Derbyshire is a wonderful location for a holiday if you are looking for a charismatic and lively place to stay. With plenty on offer there is no way you will be left with little to do in this brilliant town and we have a great selection of Matlock holiday cottages that can provide you with an excellent base to explore from. From converted barns and riverside apartments to Victorian stone-built cottages we will have something that will get you excited for your next holiday.
Once famed for its hydros and spa treatments, Matlock is now a bustling tourist destination set in the gorge of the river Derwent. This pretty village is a delight to wander around with its attractive riverside gardens, Victorian buildings, wooded hillsides and rocky limestone crags. Just down the river from the main town lies Matlock Bath which was developed in the Victorian era after the discovery of thermal springs. The town soon became a fashionable resort for the wealthy, however with the coming of the railways it was soon more accessible to day trippers from further afield.
Today, the modern town is split into two, with the original Victorian villas set in tidy rows going up the hill from the river overlooking the amusement arcades of Matlock Bath. The charismatic town has a full range of shops and facilities and it houses the Lead Mining Museum, a cable railway and even a theme park!
The hillsides around afford some superb viewpoints and beautiful countryside is literally on the doorstep. It is also surrounded by the likes of Holloway and Middleton by Wirksworth, not to mention Snitterton and Woolley Moor.
