Being right on the doorstep of the Peak District National Park, Sheffield’s proximity means that you can be surrounded by hills and moors and within minutes be at the heart of the city. A visit here offers an interesting and different day out - Sheffield has an outstanding choice of museums, art galleries, theatres, cinema, shopping and the arts. The choice of galleries is impressive; with the long-standing Graves Art Gallery just a stone’s throw from the new Millennium Galleries (which houses contemporary art alongside the treasured Ruskin Collection). Sheffield's theatre choice is great, with the historic Lyceum proscenium arch theatre, the famous Sheffield Crucible (which plays host to the Snooker World Championships annually) and the smaller Studio Theatre. The city's green spaces further boost Sheffield's appeal, particularly the spectacular Winter Gardens, a giant glass arched greenhouse, the largest of its kind in any European city. Being a short distance to great countryside villages and towns like Chesterfield, as well as the Kinder Scout National Nature Reserve, make this a great destination to explore the Peak District from.
