Holiday cottages to rent in Birchover.

A linear hillside village climbing up to Stanton Moor, Birchover has pretty cottages built of pinky-coloured gritstone. This is a village of history and secrets that are just waiting to be discovered. The windy streets offer ample opportunities for leisurely strolls coming across a village store, two friendly inns and a beautiful church. At the bottom there are Rowtor Rocks where you will find curious rock carvings including caves, seats and dragons. A little beyond the village lies Stanton Moor, a fascinating area of stone circles and ancient burial mounds. Across the valley are the better known rocks of Robin Hood’s Stride - more craggy rock formations which will keep you guessing about their history. This is a really interesting part of Derbyshire to discover.

Nearby are the pretty Peak District towns of Bakewell, Ashbourne and Matlock which hold even more attractions and things to be done, a highlight being the Heights of Abraham moutain chair lift and the historic spa town of Matlock Bath. There are excellent walks over Stanton Moor or across Harthill Moor on the Limestone Way to Youlgreave to name a few. Magnificent rocky scenery sourrounds this charming village which calls you out on wilderness adventures before retiring to your self-catering cottage in the evening.
